Regional Youth Development Programme (YDP) Coordinator

The Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society is looking for 3 contract Regional Youth Development Programme Coordinators to cover England North, England South and Wales and the Midlands.

The Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society supports a programme of educational activities to promote the Aberdeen-Angus breed. The Youth Development Programme (YDP) was set up to deliver to a targeted audience interested in cattle between the ages of 8 and 24 years and not necessarily just Aberdeen-Angus Breeders, the programme is open to all.

YDP aims to develop the skills and knowledge of cattle including handling, showing, dressing and stock judging in the early part of the programme. This progresses to feeding, breeding, housing, health & welfare and overall cattle management.

Regional Coordinators will be contracted to deliver three workshops in their area to an agreed Aberdeen-Angus YDP specification.

Contract – Regional Coordinator Aberdeen-Angus Youth Development Programme

Contract responsibilities

·         Arrange workshops with three suitable Aberdeen-Angus breeders in their region.

·         Selected sites should offer accessibility across a wide catchment area.

·         Ensure that the workshops are well publicised in advance of the event.

·         Liaise with other stakeholders such as YFC, schools and colleges in the area to maximise participation at each workshop.

·         All health and safety both pre and during the event and ensure activities are delivered in a safe and responsible manner.

·         Manage bookings and registrations from participants for each workshop in concert with the Society office and support staff.

·         Ensure that there are sufficient cattle available halter broken for each workshop.

·         Ensure adequate equipment is available for each workshop.

·         Identify and book suitable trainers for the disciplines at each workshop.

·         Brief the trainers on responsibilities and safe working practices prior to the start of each workshop.

·         Brief the trainers and assessors on the scoring procedures for participants at each workshop.

·         Brief the participants of the methods of scoring at each workshop.

·         Collate and summarise the scoring for each participant.

·         Carry out health and safety briefing with the participants and guardians prior to the start of the workshop.

·         Monitor and supervise workshops to ensure all participants have equal opportunity to experience activities.

·         Submit a workshop report within one week of the completion of the workshop to the Society support staff, including photographs of the event, scoring sheets and collated scores.

·         Review and analyse workshops with a view to consistently improve the participant experience.

Essential qualities of the contractor.

·         DBS/CRB/PVG check is mandatory. The cost of this will be covered by the Society.

·         Current Advanced First Aid in the workplace certificate (cost will be covered by the Society).

·         Level 2 Health and Safety in the Workplace (cost will be covered by the Society).

·         An excellent communicator possessing good people skills.

·         A background in agriculture and cattle management.

·         Proven organisational experience.

·         An affinity to work with children of the age groups 8 – 24 years.

·         A full UK car driving licence.

·         Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programmes.

·         Proficient in the use of social media channels as a method of marketing.

·         A willingness for the area to excel in its delivery of the programme.

Remuneration for the Role

The package carries a daily rate and a system of claiming expenses incurred which we will be happy to share with applicants and reflects the responsibility of the role and the desire of the Society to deliver the programme to a high standard.

Time Commitment

Workshops are always run on weekends and therefore there will be a minimum commitment of three weekends per year to facilitate these.

You are also expected to attend the Finals weekend in autumn where to help and assist with the delivery of culmination of the course. This is also subject to your day rates. However, accommodation and meals are usually part of the overall expense covered by the Society.

There may be other events that the regional coordinators are required to attend, and the day rate would apply to any required attendance.
