Rodmead Herd Walk

18 Sept 2026

A Herd Walk to take place at the kind invitation of Angus Neish

To end this year's activities, we have been invited by Angus Neish to view his highly successful Rodmead Herd.

Rodmead Aberdeen Angus was started in 2001 and is part of a mixed farming enterprise. The farm is 1800 acres, with 1300 acres of Arable and 400 acres of grass. We have always tried to farm in an environmentally friendly way and are in the Higher-Level Scheme (HLS) and the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI). The herd started with 6 heifers from the Nightingale herd and has grown to about 80 purebred cows.

Rodmead have always done some showing, with the main successes being Royal Highland Show 2023 Champion Bull and Reserve Overall Champion- Rodmead Prague, Reserve Junior Female Rodmead Diana, and also Champion Group of Three. The Royal 3 Counties Show 2019 Supreme Beef Champion- Rodmead Bonnie Lass. More recently, at the Carlisle Agri Expo National Calf Show 2025, Rodmead Edwina was Overall Champion and Champion Calf, and Rodmead Black Baldero was Reserve Male Calf Champion.

At the 2025 South England Club Herd Competition, Rodmead picked up: Best Large Herd, Best Stock Bull  ( Rodmead Prague), & Best Heifer Calf ( Rodmead Edwina)

About 20-25 Bulls are sold to buyers all over the country. Rodmead Primero was sold at the Stirling bull sales to the Auchinacrieve Herd and then went on to be herd sire at Blelack, Gretnahouse and Glenade. Breeding heifers are also sold, with heifers going as far afield as the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
